Cesar Orozco
“Orozco acquits himself with uncommon distinction, tirelessly seeking out the restlessly changing colours and textures of Latin jazz.”
— Raul Da Gama, Latin Jazz Network
César Orozco is a GRAMMY Award–winning pianist, composer, and arranger whose music bridges Cuban and Venezuelan traditions with modern jazz, delivering performances that are both intellectually rich and emotionally compelling. His work is grounded in deep folkloric knowledge while embracing the freedom and sophistication of contemporary jazz improvisation.
Born in Cuba and artistically shaped during more than a decade in Venezuela, Orozco developed a distinctive voice that draws equally from Afro-Cuban rhythm, Venezuelan melodic forms, and the harmonic language of jazz. After relocating to the United States, he refined this vision through advanced studies at The Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, quickly establishing himself as a sought-after performer, bandleader, and collaborator.
As the leader of César Orozco Kamarata Jazz, he has released critically acclaimed recordings including Son con Pajarillo and Orozcojam, the latter earning multiple nominations and the Cubadisco Award for Best Vocal-Instrumental Album. His compositions and arrangements balance precision, swing, and narrative depth, inviting listeners into an immersive musical dialogue.
Orozco has performed across the United States, Europe, and Latin America in jazz clubs, concert halls, festivals, and academic settings. On stage, his performances are dynamic, exploratory, and deeply rhythmic, offering audiences a refined yet accessible journey through rhythm, melody, and cultural exchange.
